Foods With High Cholesterol

Cholesterol Conundrum.
A big contender on this front is red meat such as beef, veal, pork and lamb. No matter how these foods are prepared, they are incredibly high in cholesterol. It was once purported that eggs were a healthier alternative to getting protein; however, egg yolks too are packed with bad cholesterol. Most dairy based products are also loaded with cholesterol: whole milk, processed cheese, butter, cream cheese, and of course, ice cream. Most of these foods have become staples of the standard American diet, which is why the stakes are presently so high.
Less common foods that are high in cholesterol include animal liver and brain or any other organ meats. Otherwise, chances are if the food is tasty, it’s high in cholesterol. Nearly every cake or dessert is loaded with cream, milk, eggs and butter and therefore cholesterol. However, not all cholesterol is bad cholesterol. Some foods are high in “good cholesterol” like seafood, onions, or olives. The key is not to avoid foods with high cholesterol, but to consume them in moderation. Additionally, eating foods high in good cholesterol or foods that help lower bad cholesterol in conjunction will temper the health risks.
It is important to understand the health risks involved with consuming high cholesterol foods since there are so many currently out there. Also, be sure to understand fundamentally what bad cholesterol is and how to identify it on a label. Do not be fooled by other health food gimmicks into consuming something that is superficially healthy, but in reality filled with cholesterol. Be balanced to stay healthy.
